Irises – Be Careful When You Cut the Leaves
Don’t cut iris leaves after the flowers fade. Leaves carry on photosynthesis and develop nourishment for next year’s growth. Cut off brown tips and remove the flowering stalk down to the rhizome.
Shave Cream Substitute
If you run out of shaving cream use hair conditioner instead. Just use it the same way you would use the shaving cream.

Cleaning Small Appliances
To clean your coffee or spice grinder, run some bread through it to clean it. Cut a plain slice of bread into quarters, then grind it. I will work the fine bits of spice or coffee dust out of the little corners and hard to reach places. Then toss the bread crumbs out for the birds.
Car Battery Cleaner
Clean the crusty buildup of battery acid on car battery connections with a can of Coca Cola. Pour it on and scrub gently with a brush. Be sure to rinse the battery and the ground below with some water afterward, as the sugar can attract ants.
Keep Car Locks From Freezing
To help keep your car locks from freezing, put a little petroleum jelly on them and move the keys in and out of and back and forth in the keyhole. This would also work on house doors.
Prevent Car Doors From Freezing
To help keep your car doors from freezing shut, use a little silicone spay on the rubber seal around the door.
Splinters
- Apply a piece of adhesive tape over a splinter and then pull off quickly. The splinter should come out with the tape, but will only work if part of the splinter is visible to begin with. You can use scotch tape, masking tape, packing tape or even duct tape.
- Apply Elmer’s glue to a splinter and let dry. Once it is dry, peel off the glue and the splinter should come with it.
Foot Care
- To get rid of toenail fungus, try soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash regularly.
